Cake Poker Details
Facts and Figures
On the rise would be the assessment of Cake Poker’s traffic flow. Having started as a room on its own the continued growth of the Cake Gaming Network has more rooms joining in order to take advantage of its US friendly position.
The shared player pool means that ring games see a healthy influx of punters:
24 hour peak – 2400
7 day avg. – 1750
Overall site numbers reach around 3000 avg.
With a growing reputation and more big names being attracted to the Cake Gaming Network, expect to see more players packing the tables in the coming years.
Types of Games Offered
Cake poker’s desire to directly compete with the major players in the industry is demonstrated by the range of cash games that they offer. There is no doubt that the introduction of the ultra high stakes 500/1000 games that run on FullTilt has created some of the most compelling online action in recent memory.
With such interest in these games, Cake Poker have seized the initiative and now offer their own 500/1000 games in both No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha.
These tables are appropriately named after two of the biggest poker sickos on the net: Ziigmund and Larsluzak. While you won’t see hoards of suicidal maniacs stacking up the waiting lists, you will definitely see some of the games best locking horns from time to time.
The pulling poker of these games means that many lower stakes tables are stocked with players waiting for the action to ensue.
All variants of Hold’em are on offer right up to the 500/1000 level as is the increasingly popular Pot Limit Omaha. There are a small number of fixed limit Omaha and Omaha hi/lo tables and interestingly there are a number of Pot Limit and No Limit Omaha hi/lo tables.
Indeed, the No Limit version of hi/lo is a very rare offering indeed and will certainly provide some insane action. The site offers Stud and Stud hi/lo games but the action there is sparse as many players are content to stick to Hold’em and Omaha.
The range of MTTs on offer is good and the lower tournament fields provide some juicy overlays. Although high stakes action seems to be the focus of Cake there are a large number of regular freerolls and satellites on offer for those not quite ready to play the large buy-in games.
In terms of STTs the range of buy-ins available is directly competitive with FullTilt and PokerStars. Starting at $1 and climbing to a jaw dropping $5k the sky is certainly the limit for serious STT players.
Softness of Games
To sum up the games on Cake Poker in two words: marshmallow soft.
Ridiculously high table VPIPs all the way up to the 1 /2 levels means that solid players can make more than a pretty penny.
The action is mainly focused on the Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha games, which means finding any action other variants will be tough and when you do it is likely to only be some lost Hold’em players who’ve strayed onto the wrong tables.
Even though US players are welcome on the site there are still a large amount of crazy Scandie players who love to mimic their European idols like Ziigmund and play an alarmingly loose aggressive game.
Scanning the lobby you will find plenty of tables where the players per flop is 35% plus. My observations had me salivating at two 1 /2 No Limit Hold’em, 6 max tables with 49% and 60% avg. players per flop.
Expect much of the same in the tournaments as players look to let loose and bingo their way to a juicy tournament score.
